Things to Do During The Summit League Basketball Championships Week
The Summit League Basketball Championships take place March 4-8 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, where the men’s and women’s teams will be hoping to win their way to the top and punch their ticket to the big dance. Here are a few things to do for you and your crew before and after the games.
Mash Madness
Downtown Sioux Falls breweries, bars, restaurants, and even coffee shops are pitted against each other in this month-long drink competition. During the month of March, Mash Madness will feature signature drinks for guests to enjoy and rate at participating establishments, with the winning drink being announced at the end of the month. You’ll find everything from session ales to handcrafted cocktails using unique ingredients and lattes that will warm you up.
Falls Park
No trip to Sioux Falls is complete without a stop at the city’s namesake. Hear and feel the rush of the water at Falls Park and get a photo-worthy view from the top of the five-story observation tower. This park is free to enter and offers a variety of viewing platforms to take in the stunning landscape.
Great Shots
Grab your crew and head to Great Shots for a friendly competition. No need to worry if you have little to no golf experience; there are interactive game modes that are built to ensure everyone has a chance to win. Enjoy food and beverages delivered right to your bay, or head indoors and watch a basketball game on one of the largest LED video display walls in the city.
The Steel District
Speaking of food, The Steel District is a newer development in downtown Sioux Falls that features five different restaurants. Satisfy your hunger at Dahlia Kitchen + Bar, Big Sioux Diner & Dive, Jack Rose Social Club, Cascata Italian Cuisine, and Ironwood Steakhouse.
Activities for Kids
If you have little ones with you, consider a stop at the Washington Pavilion or Butterfly House & Aquarium. The Washington Pavilion features the Kirby Science Discovery Center which has several floors full of hands-on exhibits that are both fun and educational. At the Butterfly House & Aquarium you can walk among hundreds of butterflies and see reptiles and marine species.
Looking for something outdoors? Jacobson Plaza offers a state-of-the-art playground where the kids can run, climb, and swing their way through adventure. Afterwards, fuel up with a bite to eat at the onsite restaurant, The Lodge Bar & Grill.
Arcade & Lake Views
On the west side of Sioux Falls sits Lake Lorraine, which is surrounded by a wide range of eateries and retailers. Play your favorite arcade games at Dave & Buster’s, where both kids and adults will have a blast. Afterwards, head to Big Lost Meadery & Brewery on the other side of the lake. Sip on a glass of flavor-packed mead or try one of their cold beers on tap. You certainly won’t be disappointed with the expansive views of the lake, and if the weather is nice, you can enhance it all with a table on the patio.
Breakfast Spots
You of course need to eat breakfast in the mornings. Enjoy local favorites like the breakfast flatbread at Josiah’s or caramel banana pancakes at All Day Café. Or, if you’re not much of a breakfast person, get your cup of freshly brewed coffee at Coffea Roasterie & Espresso Bar, which has three locations in Sioux Falls.
Dessert
Don’t leave before getting a dessert or two from CH Patisserie! Award-winning chef and owner, Chris Hanmer, has staked his claim as one of the top pastry chefs in the country. Try some of the many flavors of French macarons or indulge in one of the decadent cream-filled cakes.
