The Sioux Empire Brass is presenting their Spring Concert ‘1890’s Americana’ featuring Scott Sheltsa, trombone on Sunday, May 10, 3:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3801 E 26th St, Sioux Falls.
Scott Shelsta has entertained people from all walks of life while performing the most memorable and cherished music of America’s musical history.
Scott believes in ‘Innovation through Tradition’ which has been the hallmark of his career. An audience favorite, with his “turn of the century” tailored uniform and his superb playing, Shelsta creates “Turn of the Century Americana” on your stage.
He retired from US Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” and began a new career as “Turn of the Century Americana,” where he talks about the days of our historic bandleaders Patrick Gilmore, John Philip Sousa, Arthur Pryor, and Alessandro Liberati. It happens that he performed in these bands as a trombonist, and shares his stories and playing style. Shelsta’s forte as a trombone artist centers around the turn-of-the-century style of playing.
Scott is originally from Hayti, SD and attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls.
The Sioux Empire Brass is directed by Rolf Olson. The Sioux Empire Brass is a 35-piece brass choir made up of musicians from Sioux Falls and surrounding communities.
A freewill offering will be taken.
