Liz Amlie Presents: Yours for Justice: Stories from the Suffrage Movement in SD

From 1868 to 1918 and beyond, thousands of women and men worked to remove gender restrictions on voting, starting with the South Dakota state constitution. They undertook six statewide ballot campaigns, as well as countless meetings, speeches, rallies, conventions, lobbying, petitions, canvasses, editorials, and more. South Dakota women took the lead, enlisted allies, and claimed both space and voice in civic life. From historian Liz Almlie of Pierre, hear stories of Sioux Falls’ own Etta Boyce, Mina Campbell, Belle Leavitt, and Rev. Eliza Wilkes, and how the suffrage movement unfolded around the state.
