The Falls of the Big Sioux River have been a focus of life in the region throughout history. Native American people were the first to visit the Falls and bring stories of them to European explorers. The Falls have been the center of recreation and industry since the founding of the city of Sioux Falls in 1856. At Falls Park, located at North Phillips Ave. & Falls Park Dr., visitors can see the city’s namesake as well as some of the first buildings built in Sioux Falls. Today the park covers 123 acres. An average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 100 feet over the course of the Falls each second.

Driving Directions from Interstate 229:  Take the Rice Street Exit #7. Turn West onto Rice Street and keep going West past Cliff Avenue. The road will curve to the South. After the curve, turn right onto Falls Park Drive. Take the first left to enter the park.  The Visitor Information Center parking lot is the second parking lot on your left.

Driving Directions from the middle of Sioux Falls:  Take Minnesota Avenue north to 6th Street. Turn east onto 6th Street and go to Phillips Avenue (approximately 3 blocks). Turn North onto Phillips Avenue and follow that road into the Falls Park area. The first right will be the entrance to Falls Park. The Visitor Information Center parking lot will be the first lot on your left.
